Volumetryx: a cancer trial imaging demo pharma can click through

Book a discovery call

Description

Volumetryx is a cloud platform for scans in cancer drug trials. It links the three sides of every imaging trial: the drug company that runs the study (the sponsor), the hospitals that take the scans, and the team that reads them.

The founders had a tested idea. They needed something to show drug companies soon, without paying for a full compliant build before the first customer signed. We built a working demo of the whole flow, with a sample trial already loaded.

The challenge

Cancer trials need scans on a strict schedule, and the files are huge and sensitive. Hospital staff upload whole studies of about 1.5 GB each, and they won't put up with a slow upload tool. Sponsors need to see at a glance whether every site, visit and patient is on track.

The budget mattered as much as the tech. The founders wanted to test the product with buyers by showing it, not describing it. So the priorities were low cost, speed and a convincing demo. A deeper backend could wait for the next phase.

Project management

We worked in steps, so the client could change course after each one. A small team ran weekly sprints and showed a live demo at the end of every week.

How it went:

  1. Discovery: scope, estimate and a list of the riskiest technical questions.
  2. Prototype: a clickable Figma design of the full flow, signed off before development.
  3. Tech demo: large uploads and the scan viewer tested in the browser before the main build.
  4. Build: about a month of weekly sprints to a product ready to demo.

The client wanted a design that showed we understood how imaging trials run. Sponsor views lean on charts, so a sponsor can read the state of a trial in seconds. Hospital screens stay short and simple for busy clinic staff.

Two risks we closed first

The first risk was upload speed. Hospital staff will only use the tool if a big study goes up without a long wait. With AWS S3 Transfer Acceleration and multipart upload, a 1.3 GB study reached the cloud in under 5 minutes.

The second was the viewer. Writing one from scratch, or running an imaging database behind it, would have cost a lot. We tested the open-source OHIF viewer instead. It reads files straight from S3 and covers what cancer reads need, including PET-CT fusion, 3D views and measurements.

We checked both answers in the browser before writing any product features. That kept the budget small and the demo convincing.

Functionality

The demo covers the full path from sponsor to hospital. Each role sees only its own part.

For sponsors

  • Trial setup: sign up, then add sites, visit schedules with allowed time windows, and scan types.
  • Dashboards: site performance, visits on time and patient progress, plus an activity log.

For hospitals

  • Patients and visits: each site keeps its own patient list and visit schedule.
  • Check before upload: staff confirm the date of birth and a code from the sponsor, which stops scans from landing on the wrong patient.
  • Drag-and-drop upload: a ZIP of scans with live progress and file checks.

Safety and sales

  • Locked viewer: the browser viewer opens one patient's studies only. Editing the link doesn't reveal anyone else.
  • Sample trial: realistic made-up data comes preloaded, so the sales team can demo from the first click.

Real results from real customers

What stood out most was ROCKETECH's genuine care for the customer's success.

Results

A clickable demo with a sample trial loaded, ready to show drug companies, partners and investors.
Large uploads work: a 1.3 GB study reaches the cloud in under 5 minutes.
The viewer question is settled: OHIF reads files straight from storage and handles PET-CT fusion, 3D views and measurements.
We wrote a plan for a production version that meets HIPAA and FDA 21 CFR Part 11, with role-based access and an audit log of every measurement. It waits for the first paying pharma client.
The client rated the project 5.0 out of 5 on Clutch.

EasySpk

AI / Productivity · mobile app

EasySpk is an iPhone keyboard that turns speech into clean, ready-to-send text in any app. We came up with the name, designed the brand, the app and the landing page, built the AI part and shipped the first release in 2 weeks. It got 1,000+ downloads in its first days.

GhostMinutes

AI / Productivity · web and mobile app

GhostMinutes turns meetings and calls into text and AI summaries. We built it from scratch for a serial founder: the name, the brand, an iOS app in 2 weeks, a web app 1 week later and the speech AI behind both. The product reached $1,500 MRR.

IPOPBOOKS

FinTech / AI · web app

IPOPBOOKS does the books for small US businesses: AI sorts every bank transaction and a bookkeeper checks it. We built the client portal, the bookkeeper workspace, the admin panel and the website, and launched in 10 weeks, ready to take payments.

HealthyNikah

Social / Lifestyle · mobile app

HealthyNikah helps Muslims in the UK find a husband or wife, with family involved and photos kept private. We rewrote the old app in Flutter, rebuilt billing, moved 3,200+ members over and took the app through Apple review to a relaunch on iOS and Android.

Traza

Marketplace / Lifestyle · mobile app

Traza is an Australian marketplace for tattoo artists. Its team had the web product, the API and the designs, but no mobile developers. Our React Native team built the artist app on top of what they had and got it approved on the App Store and Google Play. It went live in early 2026.

Koncierge

FinTech · web app

Koncierge connects a payment provider, FX brokers and licensed local agents in Japan through one API, a portal for each role and an embeddable checkout widget. We modeled the data, built the payment matching engine and the portals, and took it live.

Subflare

AI / MarTech · web app

Subflare shows B2B teams what a visitor did on their website before filling in a form, and how ready they are to buy. We tested the risky AI part in 2 weeks, then built the tracking script, AI scoring, dashboards and admin panel.

Daisy's Guide

Lifestyle · web app

Daisy's Guide helps couples settle the big questions before their first child arrives. The founders had a printed guide that sold well. We turned it into a web app for couples, with partner accounts, a one-time purchase, all 41 prompts and shared notes.
