Daisy's Guide: a parenting guidebook turned into a web app

Book a discovery call

Description

Daisy's Guide helps couples get ready for their first child. It walks them through the questions to settle before the baby comes: names, money, childcare, who gets up at night. It started as a printed guidebook, and it sold well.

The founders wanted the same guide as an app. We built V1 as a web app couples can add to their phone home screen (a PWA), on code that can later become iOS and Android apps.

The challenge

The book proved that people wanted the content: it sold in the low thousands of copies. But each copy cost money to print and ship, margins were thin, and selling outside the US was hard. As software, the same guide could reach more couples and keep more of each sale.

The budget was small. The founders first looked at FlutterFlow, a low-code builder that looks cheaper at the start. Low-code gets expensive later: once the product grows, it hits limits, and the usual way out is a rebuild from scratch. They needed a fast, cheap first version that they would not have to throw away.

Project management

The client controlled the spend at every step. A paid discovery of about 10 hours came first and ended with a plan and a priced scope. Then a small team built the app in two-week Scrum sprints, paid by the hour.

How it went:

  1. Discovery: about 10 hours to agree on what to build and what it would cost.
  2. Build: two-week sprints. We planned and priced each new block of work with the client before it started.
  3. Beta: V1 reached real couples about 2 months after kickoff.
  4. After launch: a lighter monthly support plan, then a walkthrough of the code and setup for the client's technical advisor.

Why we used Flutter, not low-code

FlutterFlow would have looked cheaper on day one. We wrote the app in Flutter for about the same budget. The client owns plain Flutter code that any Flutter developer can pick up and grow.

The same code runs in the browser today and can be built into iOS and Android apps later. A store release would reuse this code and start where V1 ended.

The backend runs on Supabase. It gives the app a Postgres database and server functions for custom logic, with sign-in and Stripe payments built in. Supabase also runs the servers and handles security, so a small team didn't have to build that by hand for a first version.

Functionality

V1 covers the whole path a couple takes, from sign-up to the last prompt. The app follows the book, so readers know their way around from the first screen.

For the couple

  • Sign-up: email, Google or Apple, with two-step login.
  • Invite your partner: two accounts join into one couple and go through the guide together.
  • One payment: a single Stripe purchase unlocks the guide, the same way people buy the book. There is no subscription.
  • The full guide: all 41 prompts in 7 chapters, in the same order as the book.
  • Progress: every prompt shows as done or in progress.
  • Notes: shared notes both partners see, and private notes only you see.
  • Resources and search: expert reading on each topic, and search across the whole guide.

For the client's team

  • Admin panel: edit and publish content without a developer.
  • Basic analytics: see how couples use the guide.
How a couple uses the app: invite a partner, link accounts, answer apart, compare, keep shared and private notes

Results

V1 shipped as a web app and went to beta with real couples about 2 months after kickoff.
Beta testers asked for new features instead of reporting bugs. The core of the app held up in real use.
The client owns plain Flutter code and updates content in the admin panel without a developer.
iOS and Android apps can be built from the same code. Publishing to the stores was priced as an add-on and wasn't part of this project.
After V1 the client chose a different direction for the next phase. The app stayed a web app.

EasySpk

AI / Productivity · mobile app

EasySpk is an iPhone keyboard that turns speech into clean, ready-to-send text in any app. We came up with the name, designed the brand, the app and the landing page, built the AI part and shipped the first release in 2 weeks. It got 1,000+ downloads in its first days.

GhostMinutes

AI / Productivity · web and mobile app

GhostMinutes turns meetings and calls into text and AI summaries. We built it from scratch for a serial founder: the name, the brand, an iOS app in 2 weeks, a web app 1 week later and the speech AI behind both. The product reached $1,500 MRR.

IPOPBOOKS

FinTech / AI · web app

IPOPBOOKS does the books for small US businesses: AI sorts every bank transaction and a bookkeeper checks it. We built the client portal, the bookkeeper workspace, the admin panel and the website, and launched in 10 weeks, ready to take payments.

HealthyNikah

Social / Lifestyle · mobile app

HealthyNikah helps Muslims in the UK find a husband or wife, with family involved and photos kept private. We rewrote the old app in Flutter, rebuilt billing, moved 3,200+ members over and took the app through Apple review to a relaunch on iOS and Android.

Traza

Marketplace / Lifestyle · mobile app

Traza is an Australian marketplace for tattoo artists. Its team had the web product, the API and the designs, but no mobile developers. Our React Native team built the artist app on top of what they had and got it approved on the App Store and Google Play. It went live in early 2026.

Koncierge

FinTech · web app

Koncierge connects a payment provider, FX brokers and licensed local agents in Japan through one API, a portal for each role and an embeddable checkout widget. We modeled the data, built the payment matching engine and the portals, and took it live.

Volumetryx

HealthTech · web app

Volumetryx links drug companies, hospitals and scan readers in cancer trials. We built a clickable demo of its platform: trial setup, uploads of large scan files, a browser scan viewer and progress dashboards. The two hardest technical questions were answered before the main build.

Subflare

AI / MarTech · web app

Subflare shows B2B teams what a visitor did on their website before filling in a form, and how ready they are to buy. We tested the risky AI part in 2 weeks, then built the tracking script, AI scoring, dashboards and admin panel.
