HealthyNikah: a Muslim marriage app rebuilt and relaunched on both stores

Book a discovery call

Description

HealthyNikah is a matchmaking app for Muslims in the UK who want to marry, not date. Families can take part, photos stay private, and members spend credits to send match requests.

The client already had a working business and more than 3,200 members, found mostly through Instagram and an older app. They asked us to rebuild the product, get it through app store review and relaunch it without losing the community.

The challenge

The community worked, but the product behind it was holding it back.

  • Old code: an Ionic and Angular app with no tests, no monitoring, no automated releases and no safe place for keys.
  • Billing bugs: the custom subscription system kept breaking, and some members were charged twice.
  • Community rules: guardian (wali) consent, family contacts, a blurred photo view and paid match requests.
  • Members to move: more than 3,200 people kept in spreadsheets had to arrive with their profiles filled in.

Project management

We worked in sprints and ended each one with a live demo, so the client watched the app grow and could change priorities as we went. Design had its own calls. Before launch we held separate sessions on payments and store approval. The board lived in Jira, and design and user flows in Figma and Miro.

Decisions that shaped the project:

  1. Rebuild the current app properly first. New ideas wait until after the relaunch.
  2. Replace the custom billing with RevenueCat instead of patching it again.
  3. Move the backend to the client's own AWS account and fix what the security audit found.
  4. After launch, work in fixed support blocks, so the client pays for fixes and growth one step at a time.

Moving 3,200+ members without a reset

The relaunch had to feel like an upgrade to existing members. We moved members over from spreadsheets in bulk and set clear rules for their first login.
  • Profiles filled in: members found their details already in place.
  • Credits kept: unused match credits moved over with them.
  • First month free: for members who were already paying.
  • Log in to activate: a moved profile stays out of the feed until its owner signs in.

Functionality

One Flutter app for iPhone and Android covers the whole member journey, from sign-up to a match.

Joining

  • Sign-up: a few short steps with an 18+ age check, a profile and country of residence.
  • Membership: a joining fee and a subscription that starts billing later.
  • Credits: each match request costs a credit, and members can top up.

Finding a match

  • Feed: search and filters sit right in the main feed, with pull to refresh.
  • Profile code search: find the exact person whose code someone shared with you.

Privacy and family

  • Guardian (wali) consent: built in, as the community expects.
  • Family contacts: required on women's profiles.
  • One-time blurred photo view: pictures stay private.

Running the platform

  • Notifications: push messages and email.
  • Admin panel: the client's team manages members and the platform.

Design that fits the community

We worked out the design with the client in separate calls, before and during the build. Profile screens got clearer sections in the brand's own style. The separate search page went away: search and filters now live in the main feed. We rewrote the onboarding text, the privacy notes and the reason for family contacts together with the client, so the app talks to members the way they expect.

Pitfalls

The biggest risk was Apple review. Apple first rejected the app as one more dating app in a crowded category, even though it is built for marriage and an earlier version had passed. We removed the dating language, appealed to Apple and sent a new build. The guardian consent feature passed review on the way, and the app was approved on 29 May 2026.

Billing was the second risk. The custom subscription system kept failing, so we stopped patching it. Payments moved to RevenueCat, connected to Apple and Google in-app purchases, with Stripe for payments outside the stores. That ended the recurring billing bugs of the old system.

Results

HealthyNikah relaunched to the public on 2 June 2026, on the App Store and Google Play.
More than 3,200 members moved to the new app with their profiles and match credits.
Apple rejected the first submission. After new positioning and an appeal, the app was approved.
Billing runs on RevenueCat now. The new subscription flow was tested and worked at launch.
The old app is gone. The client has one current Flutter codebase for both platforms to build on.
Work goes on after launch: activation, pricing, promo codes, referrals and product analytics.

EasySpk

AI / Productivity · mobile app

EasySpk is an iPhone keyboard that turns speech into clean, ready-to-send text in any app. We came up with the name, designed the brand, the app and the landing page, built the AI part and shipped the first release in 2 weeks. It got 1,000+ downloads in its first days.

GhostMinutes

AI / Productivity · web and mobile app

GhostMinutes turns meetings and calls into text and AI summaries. We built it from scratch for a serial founder: the name, the brand, an iOS app in 2 weeks, a web app 1 week later and the speech AI behind both. The product reached $1,500 MRR.

IPOPBOOKS

FinTech / AI · web app

IPOPBOOKS does the books for small US businesses: AI sorts every bank transaction and a bookkeeper checks it. We built the client portal, the bookkeeper workspace, the admin panel and the website, and launched in 10 weeks, ready to take payments.

Traza

Marketplace / Lifestyle · mobile app

Traza is an Australian marketplace for tattoo artists. Its team had the web product, the API and the designs, but no mobile developers. Our React Native team built the artist app on top of what they had and got it approved on the App Store and Google Play. It went live in early 2026.

Koncierge

FinTech · web app

Koncierge connects a payment provider, FX brokers and licensed local agents in Japan through one API, a portal for each role and an embeddable checkout widget. We modeled the data, built the payment matching engine and the portals, and took it live.

Volumetryx

HealthTech · web app

Volumetryx links drug companies, hospitals and scan readers in cancer trials. We built a clickable demo of its platform: trial setup, uploads of large scan files, a browser scan viewer and progress dashboards. The two hardest technical questions were answered before the main build.

Subflare

AI / MarTech · web app

Subflare shows B2B teams what a visitor did on their website before filling in a form, and how ready they are to buy. We tested the risky AI part in 2 weeks, then built the tracking script, AI scoring, dashboards and admin panel.

Daisy's Guide

Lifestyle · web app

Daisy's Guide helps couples settle the big questions before their first child arrives. The founders had a printed guide that sold well. We turned it into a web app for couples, with partner accounts, a one-time purchase, all 41 prompts and shared notes.
