The challenge

The client approached us with an original idea to merge the best of the three social networks — Patreon, Threads, and Clubhouse — and create a social media app (first, an MVP version) allowing creators to share content exclusively with their followers, both for free and for a fee.
The client had a tight deadline and a limited budget, as it all started as a self-funded project. We had just two months to develop a quality MVP mobile app ready for investors' pitch and future development.

Project management

Our project team was versatile and extended. At some point, we introduced Lead Backend and Lead Frontend roles to mitigate development risks, ensuring high-quality processes and on-time delivery. This decision, together with a defined mobile app development strategy, brought expected and positive results.

The product MVP is awaiting the second release, which includes PayPal and Twilio integrations, as soon as the client company settles organizational matters with the PayPal business account.

Closed communities and unique content: the platform overview

The Guestroom mobile app gives users a special experience. Creators can let certain people access their exclusive content for a fixed cost. The app allows creators to make money from their work, with the client initially checking the quality of the content themselves in the early MVP versions.

  • Unique access to creators' exclusive content.
  • Creators can choose who has access to their rooms.
  • High-quality content, vetted by the client.
  • Monetization options for creators.
  • User-friendly interface for content sharing.
  • Text and image posts are supported.
  • Exclusive rooms.
  • Content discovery and exploration features.

The client is happy to go on with the project and has further plans on how to develop the app from an MVP to a full-fledged product. Some planned features include:

  • Decentralized server development.
  • Integration with other open platforms.
  • Enhancing monetization models.
  • Implementing AI/ML-based recommendation engines for host discovery.
  • Introducing stable coins to reduce commissions.

Developing the mobile app: pitfalls

We faced several quite standard resource challenges of end-to-end development. Shortly before the MVP release, the QA engineer had to leave the project. However, our professionals made the process of onboarding a new QA specialist so seamless that it didn't affect the outcome even in the slightest.
In the beginning, the communication between the backend and frontend needed some adjustments. It took us less time than usual to finetune this process according to the project requirements. Even changing a frontend developer mid-project took us only 1.5 weeks and didn't negatively impact the results and our schedule.
